Materials used in this mixed media painting:
Mixed selection of ripped papers (TIP: if you rip them it keeps the edges soft and they blend with rest of picture better)
Acrylic pens
Watercolour paint
Acrylic paint
Charcoal
PVA glue mixed with water to wet and glue papers on to the canvas
Pressed, dried flowers
Biggest tip: be free to make a mess! There are no rules in art.
You can see the stages that I went through to create these mixed media paintings in the following pictures. Lay out your materials, see them as colours and shapes and not necessarily as paper and paint.
Example 1
Example 2
Look at how messy it looked at the start but as I layered more and more materials on top of each other, the image gradually appeared and it is up to you, as an artist, to decide how much to portray to the viewer.
A sense of mystery will be felt by the viewer as there are gaps in the painting: it is up to their imagination to complete the picture!
